In 2003, I photographed these new Ethiopian citizens of Israel in the Beit Canada ulpan (immigration center) in the coastal city of Ashdod, and at a dignified demonstration in Jerusalem for immigration rights for their relatives (Falash Mura) still in Ethiopia.
The older couple had made aliyah to Israel from their village in the Gondar region of Africa just a few days before this photo was made.
