Xyra - Mystic Angels

I photographed the premier performance of a number of new pieces by Xyra and her band, the Mystic Angels.

Xyra describes her ensemble's music as " Adult Ambient/Alternative Pop, with a Classical bent."

They are about to enter the studio to record a new CD, "Never Lost Forever", to be produced by Jim Ebert.

Light. Emananting.

Youngers of Zion

I photographed the old-school Yiddish music trio "Youngers of Zion" recently at a Yiddish of DC concert.
Four-time Grammy nominee Henry Sapoznik wailed and played with klezmer (and other music) giants Mark Rubin and Cookie Segelstein.

To quote John Moremen "I dug it the most."

Old-time music maven Robert Crumb said of them "The Youngers of Zion is a great little band...really on the mark."

True true true. Emes emes emes.

Restoration Ministries (end the trafficking)

I have again volunteered my photography efforts in support of Restoration Ministries, a Christian organization run by Candace Wheeler in Washington DC. Their mission is to reach out and rehabilitate women caught in the trap of prostitution.

The photographs are not intended to titillate, clearly identify, or in any way degrade or shame these women, but to aid the efforts of Ms. Wheeler and her supporters in their kind and uplifting work, and to increase public awareness of the extent of the need to reach out and help all those ensnared in this dangerous and degrading life.

Note: some of these images document a DC police "sting" operation to arrest the "johns" who perpetuate the trafficking of human beings in slavery-like conditions.

Saints and Tzadiks

Saints and Tzadiks, a collaboration between Yiddish musician Lorin Sklamberg (of the Klezmatics) and Irish singer Susan McKeown, performed at the DCJCC's Jewish Music Festival.

Amazing, beautiful sounds from these two exceptionally gifted Grammy-winning artists, ably accompanied by guitarist Eamon O'Leary
