November 22, 1963 remembered

Sixty years ago today.

I clearly recall the unusual sadness of my 6th grade teacher when she returned to our classroom after a break, and then the shock and ensuing silence of the school principal announcing over the loudspeaker "an assailant has shot and killed the President..." My Boy Scout patrol was chosen to raise the flag in the town square to half mast. We did it every morning at dawn for the next month. The sadness of what we lost as a nation - the hope and dream that was represented in the person of President Kennedy- echoes in our history to this moment.

Camelot.
