Victory Pentecostal Apostolic Church

I recently documented a celebration in honor of the Reverend Tyrone Tyson at the Victory Pentecostal Apostolic Church in Landover, Maryland. Reverend T. is the founder and president of Psalms Exchange Productions, an enterprise fostering a number of talented locally-based gospel ensembles.

Performing were:
Luke Saunders and the Sensational Stars
Juanita Helliums and the Gospel of Faith
God's House
Life's Atonement
Gospel Reflections
The Way
The Thrope Singers
Eternity

It was quite an evening, of many styles. The music and spirit roared, joyous and free.

Thanks to my friend, the good Pastor Robert Truesdale, "The Pastor from the Hood," for inviting me to observe and experience the sanctified music.

This is the largest number of photographs I have ever displayed in a single blog post. I believe the power and depth of the music can be sensed in these images...

I am planning to create an artist's book based on the work.

Book: Circles Within Circles | Jewish Time Frames

I have just created a book of poetry and photographs exploring Jewish conceptions and celebrations of time. Circles Within Circles: Jewish Time Frames has been created in collaboration with noted poet Sherri Waas Shunfenthal.

The book is a collection from our work and the associated touring exhibition. It can be previewed and purchased from Blurb Books, including in an ebook format.

Champions | 10 years of covers

I have been doing photography for the terrific student career and technical training organization SkillsUSA for the past 25+ years. Their award-winning student print publication, Champions, is now ten years old. I have had the privilege of shooting every one of the forty covers, in collaboration with their designer, director of publications Tom Hall.

The compilation image is of thirty of these covers, and the single image is the just hot off the presses.

Mr. Dews | Real DC

Mr. Dews lives in the 90-year-old house he was born in, on the edge of the Barry Farms neighborhood in Southeast Washington DC, though he hopes to move soon to senior housing.

Nice guy, and from what I understand, plays a mean game of pool.

Thanks to reporter John Muller for the introduction.
