"Much Here Is Beautiful "- Arlington Photographic Documentary Project work in a book published by the Smithsonian American Art Museum

My former photo student, Skye Raiser, kindly sent me a picture of four photographs from the Arlington Photographic Documentary Project, funded by a National Endowment For The Arts (NEA) Community Survey grant in 1979-80. It shows three of my pictures and one by my dear colleague and collaborator Paula Endo in a 2 page spread in a new book published in conjunction with a major show at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in DC. Our work is not on display in the exhibition, but is included in the book, and is now included in the museum's collections.

What's Past Is Prologue" - Transformation of the Folger Shakespeare Library 2020 - 2024

I have created an artist's book of the work I did for over four years documenting the demolition, construction, and renovation of the Folger Shakespeare Library in DC. It was a marvel and a learning experience to do this work on behalf of the Folger.

Day of Infamy: Book documenting the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol

I have created an artist's book of my photographs of the January 6 2021 insurrection at the US Capitol. It is available to view in its entirety for free, or for purchase (it's a high-quality print on-demand book, so the cost is a shade high). A pdf of the book suitable for all devices is also available for download for a very modest price. There is minimal text- the pictures speak for themselves- the truth matters. 

I felt it was important to have all the pictures collected in a permanent medium.

Train 82 to New York City: A continued conversation with Albrecht Dürer.

In the early 1970's, I regularly took the train between Washington, DC and Trinity College, the school I attended in Hartford, Connecticut. To relieve the tedium and to amuse myself, I often conducted extended imaginary conversations with the great German artist of the late Renaissance, Albrecht Dürer. I would point out the things that had changed in the world, and we would observe the rough and tumble industrial landscape of the mid-Atlantic route. I would imagine him talking about what he would sketch, and what he thought of things. I very much enjoyed these inner exchanges.

On May 21, 2022, my partner Ruth and I took Amtrak train 82 from Washington DC to New York, covering much of the same route as I had years ago. We were headed to the sixtieth birthday party of our friend, the German-born artist, Tine Kindermann.

I took up my conversation with Dürer again right where we had left off.
​
These pictures are a record of sorts of what transpired.
