harDCore Santa | Punk rock kindness

I ran into an old acquaintance while documenting volunteers at Loaves and Fishes on Christmas Day, part of the EDCJCC's D25 effort.

Ian MacKaye, ex Teen Idles, Minor Threat, Fugazi, Dischord Records guy, and now of the Evens and Coriky, was dropping off cakes and other goodies at St. Stephen's Church, where he was christened and his father is still an active and supportive member.

It was a nice to catch up a bit, too. Good ol' Ian.

D25 | EDCJCC volunteer effort 2022

The Edlovitch DCJCC (the Washington DC Jewish Community Center) organized its annual D25 volunteer day to help those in need on Christmas.  I documented volunteers at Christ House, Sasha Bruce Youthwork, Central Union Mission, Loaves and Fishes, DC Central KitchenKarin House, and at the JCC itself. This is my 27th or 28th year covering this citywide mission of kindness.

Thank you to editor David Holzel of Washington Jewish Week, to the hard-working Sonya Weisburd and Mira Smith of the EDCJCC volunteer/social action programand especially to my dear partner Ruth Stromberg, who once again ably took down caption material.

Holiday celebration | APAH

I photographed APAH (Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing)'s holiday party for their many residents.

There was a large turnout  (400+) for the festivities. It was heartwarming to see the happiness and good will expressed throughout the many shades of the exceptionally diverse community they serve. Santa had a great time, as did the families.

Thanks to Elise Panko of APAH for the assignment-. Blessings on the good work the entire APAH crew does in our community.
