OUDC Class 30 travelled to Africatown, in north Mobile, Alabama. They met with other local youth activist groups, local leaders, and elders. They learned the story of the Clotidle, the last slave ship known to come to the US, and heard about Africatown, the community founded by the enslaved Africans and their descendants, near where the ship was run aground and burned. It was a lesson in history and ongoing activism for social justice.
