Iron and Steel
A group of New York City firefighters presented Arlington County VA firefighters with a section of steel recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center's north tower that was destroyed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Five hundred motorcycles, plus vintage firefighting vehicles, accompanied the steel beam on its journey. The ride ended at the Pentagon. The next day, moving ceremonies were held at Arlington Station #5, which was the first respondent to the terror attacks on the Pentagon.
The beam, a physical symbol of solidarity, dignity, and hope, will be displayed at the firehouse.
I had the honor of being engaged by the Arlington County Fire Department to document the occasion.
These photographs, arrayed in the order I took them, are my own personal visual take on the people and the event.
