A Joyful Noise klezmer concert | Heller Museum

A Joyful Noise klezmer concert was part of the opening of the exhibition "A Joyful Noise:Klezmer On The Move" at the Heller Museum of Hebrew Union College in New York City. The all-star band, led by trumpeter/composer Sir Frank London of the Klezmatics, included Ilya Shneyveys, accordionist; Michael Winograd, clarinetist; Aaron Alexander, percussion; Alex Parke, clarinetist; Ron Caswell, tuba; and Pete Rushefsky, tsimblist.

Dancing and joy ensued.

Special thanks to Heller Museum director Jean Bloch Rosensaft and museum curator Nancy Mantell.

The Klezmatics at JXJ

The Grammy-winning Klezmatics performed at the JXJ Festival at the EDCJCC.

Thanks to everyone in the band: Lorin Sklamberg, Matt Darriau, Paul Morissette, Frank London, Lisa Gutkin, and guest drummer Grant Smith, and to JXJ director Mardy Shauly and staff, especially Yaa Amoakohene.

Baymele in concert

I recently photographed the fine Bay Area klezmer ensemble Baymele. Their DC concert was co-sponsored by my congregation, Fabrangen, and the good folks at the DC Klezmer Workshop.

Baymele is: Matthew Stein - violin; Dmitri Gaskin - accordion; and Misha Khalikulov - cello.
