D25 - EDJCC volunteer effort 2018

The Edlovitch DCJCC (the Washington DC Jewish Community Center) along with its associated Behrend Builders program, organized over 700 volunteers this year to provide services of food, companionship, uplift, and joy to those in need on Christmas Day.

I have covered this annual event since 1991.

The photographs are of a number of volunteers at local social service programs, including  Father McKenna Center, Christ HouseDC Central Kitchen, an INOVA blood drive, Casa Ruby, and the Deanwood Rehabilitation and Wellness Center.

Thank you to editor David Holzel of Washington Jewish Week, to Sonya Weisburd and Randy Bacon of the EDCJCC volunteer/Behrend Builders programs, members of my Fabrangen havurah and our friends at Congregation Beth Emet, and especially to my dearest  Ruth Stromberg, who gets up with me in the pre-dawn cold and dark to take accurate notes over a long and hectic day to provide captions for publication.

Shalom, shalom, shalom. Peace on earth, goodwill to all.
