We are all indebted to him for his service in the struggle for equal rights and justice as a young activist, as an elected official, as the chair of the NAACP, and as the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center.
I had the opportunity to photograph Mr. Bond for Operation Understanding DC in April 2004.
He will be missed.
May his memory - and his work - always be for a blessing.
