Lox & Vodka | Simcha

Caron Dale's klezmer and simcha ensemble Lox and Vodka recently entertained at a bar mitzvah reception I covered. Good music, freylekhe zeit. Good times.

Alicia Svigals- DC klezmer workshop

Alicia Svigals, one of the world's foremost klezmer fiddlers, presented a master class to the DC Klezmer Workshop at Adas Israel Congregation.

Gorgeous music, much learning.

David Fair, z'l

The world is a little less bright today, as I have learned of the passing of artist David Fair of the bands Half-Japanese, Coo Coo Rockin' Time and of the Shakemore festival family. His uniquely quirky humor, music, dance, jetstream of joy, great wit, bouncy energy and talent lit us all up. May his memory and good cheerful work be a blessing for all

(I made all these photos of David at various Shakemore festivals).

DC Klezmer Workshop with Frank London

The DC Klezmer Workshop  recently held a well-attended and vibrant teaching session with Grammy-winner Frank London (of the Klezmatics, Hasidic New Wave, and Frank London's Klezmer Brass All-Stars). The workshop was held at DC's Adas Israel congregation.

Thanks to Howard Ungar, Judy Barlas, the many good folks of the workshop group, and to Frank London.
