It was carefully conveyed a through the street a couple of blocks down Third Street NW in Washington DC. The building was the first synagogue in the District, the former home of the Adas Israel Congregation. It was moved many years ago from its original site serve as a local Jewish museum. Now it has travelled again. It will be significantly expanded to serve a wider mission, with new facilities to come.
Speakers included Rabbi Aaron Alexander of Adas Israel, Rabbi Lauren Holtzblatt of Adas Israel Congregation, DC US Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC City Councilmember Jack Evans, DC City Councilmember Elissa Silverman, chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities John Parrish Peede, members of the Small family, and Jewish Historical Society of Greater Washington executive director Kara Blond.
