Nelson Mandela was one of the most noble men I have ever encountered: gracious, wise, kind, deeply courteous, and a truly magnificent soul. I photographed him on assignment not long after he assumed the presidency of South Africa, when he visited the labor union AFSCME, in Washington DC.
May we all continue to be blessed by the example and works of his life.
