These photographs were made at a Ukrainian Community program for seniors in Bat Yam, Israel, and at the Nitzana Center, in Israel's Negev desert.
The African teenagers at Nitzana are from Eritrea. They escaped the country and walked, often alone, across mountains and deserts to Israel, suffering along the route from the most horrific conditions imaginable. They are all Tigrit-speaking orphans, who are being cared for by the Israeli government in a humanitarian gesture.
There are numerous programs, many related to environmental technology, at Nitzana.
And, the road is the road...
On assignment for JFNA. Thanks to Sara Eisen of the Jewish Agency for Israel for her guidance in Nitzana.
