D25 - EDJCC volunteer effort 2019
The Edlovitch DCJCC (the Washington DC Jewish Community Center) along with its associated Behrend Builders program, organized several hundred volunteers again this year to provide services of food, fellowship, kindness, and joy to those many who are in need on Christmas Day.
I have covered this annual event since 1991.
The photographs are of a number of volunteers at local social service programs, including Father McKenna Center, DC Central Kitchen, an INOVA blood drive, Access Housing, Martha's Table, Loaves and Fishes, and Central Union Mission. Other programs at the Jewish Community Center benefit refugees, the LGBTQ community, and families in need of food assistance, and other groups.
Thank you to editor David Holzel of Washington Jewish Week, to the hard-working Sonya Weisburd and Randy Bacon of the EDCJCC volunteer/Behrend Builders programs, members of my Fabrangen havurah and our friends at Congregation Beth Emet, and especially to my wonderful partner Ruth Stromberg, who gets up with me in the pre-dawn dark to take notes for captions through this long and busy day.
Shalom, y'all. Peace.
