Dr. Dorothy Height 1912-2010
Dr. Dorothy Height, lauded by President Obama as "the godmother of the civil rights movement" passed away yesterday at the age of 98.
Her effective and graceful leadership for equal rights for African-Americans and women merits our deepest gratitude and emulation.
Thank you Dr. Height. I am sure the angels are welcoming you as one of them.
This portrait was made in the offices of the National Council of Negro Women in April 2005.

From a celebration- Zak
There is so much more to this occasion, but all of it beyond my eye's ability or desire.
The two color images are from the moving celebration of the life of my old and dear friend James Zachar, Zak, who passed away recently.
The black and white picture is from a 1993 Polaroid journal. Zak was at that time getting over- and beat - a disabling ailment. This time, even with his wife Mary's constant, unwavering, valiantly loving support, his extraordinary spirit left the world.
May his memory be a blessing for all of us.
A fierce and loving blessing. Dayenu.
