Soul to Soul | African-American and Yiddish American experiences in music

Soul to Soul, a musical production of the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbeine (NYTF), was recently on tour at the Reston Community Center. The program featured powerful music expressions from the Black and Jewish experiences, with Yiddish/klezmer melodies together with music from the civil rights era and the Black church.

The musicians were Zalman Mlotek (זלמן נתן מלאָטעק) - keyboards and musical director,  Lisa Fishman - vocals, Brian Glassman - bass, Elmore James - vocals, Tony Perry - vocals, Daniella Rabbani - vocals, Matt Temkin -  percussion, and Dr. Zisl Slepovitch- clarinet, saxophone

Thank you to Reston Community Center's director, Paul Michnewicz, and his able staff for permission to photograph the concert, and for facilitating the process.

Drawings by Adele (birds of a feather)

Two drawings my granddaughter Adele made for my recent birthday.

One is of my friend Aggie the crow who lives at Long Branch Nature Center, and the other is of one of the two Canadian geese, Dan and Shirley, who live at Bright Pond.

Love.

Coalition for Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO) "Framework" event

The Coalition for Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO), headed by Zakiya Worthey, held a multi-faceted program at Arlington VA's Wakefield High School.

"The Framework" featured a panel discussion focusing on the College Board’s AP African-American Studies curriculum course, its significance to American history, and its relevance for today. Panelists include members of the AP African-American Studies Development Committee and current students. Speakers included Mrs. Antoinette Dempsey-Waters and Dr. Robert J. Patterson.

I was honored and glad to be of service documenting the evening.
